Lent Schedule 2016
Introduction
Welcome to St Mark’s United Methodist Church! We are thrilled to present to you the Lent Schedule 2016. As a community and society organization centered around faith and beliefs, we understand the significance of Lent and its importance to our congregation. This year, we have prepared a rich and comprehensive schedule of events and activities for this sacred season.
What is Lent?
Lent is a period of 40 days that begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday. It is a time of reflection, prayer, and spiritual growth for Christians around the world. During this season, we commemorate the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness and prepare ourselves for the celebration of his resurrection.
Schedule of Events
Ash Wednesday Service - February 17
Join us on February 17, at 7:00 PM, for our Ash Wednesday service. This solemn and meaningful service marks the beginning of Lent and sets the tone for the season ahead. We invite you to receive the imposition of ashes as a symbol of repentance and renewal.
This service is open to all members of the community and serves as a powerful reminder of our shared faith and commitment to spiritual growth.
Lenten Bible Study - Every Wednesday
Explore the scriptures and deepen your understanding of the Word of God with our weekly Lenten Bible Study. Starting on February 24, join us every Wednesday at 6:00 PM in the church hall for an in-depth study of selected passages.
Our knowledgeable and passionate leaders will guide the discussions and provide insights that will enrich your knowledge and spiritual journey.
Stations of the Cross - Every Friday
Experience the journey to Calvary through the Stations of the Cross. Every Friday during Lent, at 7:00 PM, we gather at St Mark’s Church to meditate on and honor the sacrifices Jesus made for humanity.
An interactive and contemplative experience, the Stations of the Cross is a visual representation of the final hours of Jesus Christ, and an opportunity for personal reflection and devotion.
Palm Sunday Service - March 27
Join us on Palm Sunday, on March 27, at 9:00 AM. This joyous service commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We come together as a community to celebrate and praise, waving palm branches and singing hymns of joy.
Witness the reenactment of the biblical event and experience the excitement and anticipation that filled the air as Jesus entered the city.
Maundy Thursday Service - March 31
On Maundy Thursday, at 7:00 PM, we gather for a unique and intimate service that commemorates the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples. This solemn occasion allows us to reflect on the deep significance of the symbols—bread and wine—and the tremendous sacrifice Jesus made for humanity.
Experience the washing of feet as a powerful reminder of the humble love and servant leadership demonstrated by Jesus.
Good Friday Service - April 1
Join us on Good Friday, at 12:00 PM, for a somber and reflective service that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This service invites us to contemplate the immense sacrifice made on the cross and the profound love that God has for us.
Through prayers, hymns, and scripture readings, we journey with Christ towards his crucifixion and burial.
Easter Sunday Service - April 3
Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with us on Easter Sunday. Our joyful service begins at 10:00 AM, filled with music, praise, and a powerful message of hope.
Join us to experience the true meaning of Easter and rejoice in the victory over sin and death that Jesus' resurrection represents.
