Discovering the Teachings of Faith and Beliefs at St Mark’s United Methodist Church

Welcome to St Mark’s United Methodist Church, a vibrant community dedicated to exploring the rich teachings of faith and beliefs found in the Holy Scriptures. In this sermon series, we delve into Romans 3:21-26, where the apostle Paul brings to light the essence of the Gospel and the righteousness of God.

The Essence of Romans 3:21-26

At St Mark’s United Methodist Church, we place great emphasis on studying and understanding the Bible. In Romans 3:21-26, Paul highlights the concept of justification and how God's righteousness is revealed through faith in Jesus Christ. Let's take a closer look at this transformative passage:

  1. Justification: In Romans 3:21, Paul asserts that apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed. This righteousness is not achieved through the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. Justification, therefore, is a gift from God, bestowed upon believers who put their trust in Christ.
  2. The Role of Jesus: The passage continues in verse 22, explaining that this righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Jesus, as the centerpiece of our faith, is the one who makes justification possible. By His sacrifice on the cross, He provides a way for humanity to be reconciled to God.
  3. Atonement: Romans 3:23 reminds us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Despite our shortcomings, God offers redemption and atonement through the sacrificial act of Jesus. Through His blood, we find forgiveness and restoration, as verse 24 proclaims.
  4. Just and Justifier: Verse 25 highlights a significant aspect of God's character - His justice. It states that God presented Jesus as a sacrifice of atonement, demonstrating His justice in passing over sins committed beforehand. God is both just and the justifier, ensuring that sin is paid for while offering forgiveness and mercy to those who believe.
  5. The Power of Faith: Finally, in verse 26, Paul concludes by emphasizing that faith in Jesus Christ is the key to experiencing God's righteousness. As we place our trust in Him, we are justified and made right with God, setting the stage for a transformed life of grace, love, and purpose.
